Free Rock Climbing and Other Recreation Opportunities!

The Recreation Program has had great response to all of our programs so far and there will be more opportunities this week!

Here are some great things to be aware of.  First is the Recreation Challenge. This is a list of a variety of activities that you can participate in in order to eventually earn a recreation pin. The challenge can be done over the course of the year (or multiple years) at Gustavus.  All of the recreation programs can be a part of this, but you can do them on your own as well.  Stop by the Recreation office (in the Johnson Student Union, across from Career Development) if you have any questions.

The Recreation program is also offering a fall break camping opportunity at Forestville Park in Southeastern Minnesota. The park has a cave, trout streams and hiking trails. Nearby is the Root River for a canoe trip and the Root River Bike Trail if there is biking interest. Go to: https://forms.gle/yjDvHiQC37AxQU5G6 to sign up.

We also have an agreement with Minnesota State Mankato that allows Gustavus students to go rock climbing there for free. Climbing is generally Sunday through Thursday nights from 6:30-10pm.  You can see their hours at: https://www.mnsu.edu/university-life/campus-recreation/maverick-adventures/climbing-walls/open-climb-hours/ . When you arrive let them know you are a Gustavus student. They will get you started. No experience is necessary.

If you have an interest in bird watching please sign up for the Birding List.

If you are interested in Mountain Biking or Trail Biking sign up here.

And finally, we have an equipment lending and a bike lending program. Check them out!

We will be offering a variety of activities as we move through the semester.  Feel free to send Mark Hanson (mjh44@gustavus.edu) ideas if there are events you would like to see happen.
